Open Ground
Monthly peer men's group in Dulwich Hill offering a confidential, supportive space to check in and connect.
Open Ground is a monthly open men's group. A safe and supportive space to sit and simply check in.
My name is Toby. I am originally from New Zealand and have been involved in various areas of men's work over the past decade, mainly in Auckland. My main job is working in film construction (building sets). I am doing this in my spare time because I have seen first hand the profound impact that men's work can have on one's life. I am now accredited at the Australian Institute of Practitioners Counselling and have a lifelong passion for social justice. In my spare time I can be found tinkering with my sound system which is part of reggae and dub music culture. I am also a husband and father to a toddler and two young ladies which keeps my hands full.
These sessions are simply about connection. There is an understanding amongst all that even showing up takes bravery. There will be no demands to share more than you are comfortable with. Men of all ages and backgrounds are welcome — whether you’re going through something specific or just haven’t had a proper conversation in a while. If you’ve ever wondered how to make friends as an adult, felt disconnected from your community, or simply want to be around other blokes who are also doing the work of showing up, this is for you. No experience with men’s groups required.
I understand that turning up can feel daunting. Everyone feels like that the first time. The sessions allow participants to lean in or observe — it's really up to you.
Hosted at Little BIG House community centre in Dulwich Hill. More info: https://littlebigfoundation.org/series/open-ground/
