Group exhibition of contemporary printmaking showcasing lithography drypoint collagraph and woodblock works by four artists

Explore: Printmaking Techniques presents a grouping of prints by four contemporary artists, each employing a different mode of printmaking.

Covering lithography, drypoint, chine collé, collagraph, and woodblock printing, the exhibition highlights the persistence of printmaking as a practice, and the way artists have embraced historic techniques while utilizing contemporary color, imagery, and materials.

These works by Cameron Bailey, Becky Blosser, Rachel Mentzer, and Junli Song showcase each artist’s unique process, while honoring the long-standing traditions of printmaking.

Learn more about the featured printmaking techniques below.

Chine collé: a technique in which thin paper is bonded with a support paper by being run through the press with the printing plate (MoMA)

Collagraphy: a technique in which objects or textured materials are adhered to a rigid surface, which is then inked and pressed to create a print

Drypoint: an intaglio printmaking process in which a design is drawn on a plate with a sharp, pointed needle-like instrument (Tate)

Lithography: a planographic printmaking process in which a design is drawn onto a flat stone (or prepared metal plate, usually zinc or aluminum) and affixed by means of a chemical reaction (The Met)

Mokuhanga: traditional Japanese woodblock printing, utilizing water-based inks

Cameron Bailey is an artist and printmaker specializing in water-based woodblock printmaking. He studied painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art and began printmaking in 2016. Primarily working in a multi-layer reduction technique, Bailey fuses inspiration from German Romanticism, American Tonalism, and Japanese Shin-Hanga to create evocative landscapes and portraits that continue a tradition of cross-cultural dialog between Western and Eastern aesthetics. Utilizing traditional Japanese printmaking tools and materials, he brings a contemporary approach to a time-honored craft. He has shown in multiple group shows and his work is held in private collections across the world.

Becky Blosser (born 1981, Harrisburg PA, lives in Lancaster, PA) received an MFA in Fine Arts from Mason Gross School of The Arts at Rutgers University in 2007. In her work, through process and printmaking, Blosser explores drawing, invention and formal language connecting structural shape and natural form. She exhibits her work both nationally and within her local community. In 2024, Ms. Blosser’s work was included in Art of the State at the Pennsylvania State Museum in Harrisburg. In 2021, her work was included in 95th Annual International Competition at The Print Center in Philadelphia PA. Blosser’s works have also recently been exhibited at the Demuth Museum in Lancaster PA, at Elizabethtown College, Millersville University, Paducah College of Art and Design in…
