Domicile conjugal
Projection de Domicile conjugal (François Truffaut, 1970) en version originale française sous-titrée anglais
DOMICILE CONJUGAL * 1970 (Bed and Board) * Directed by François Truffaut * 98 minutes * In French with English subtitles
Legendary French director François Truffaut kickstarted his version of the French New Wave with The 400 Blows. This film continues the life of Antoine (Jean‑Pierre Léaud) eleven years later: now married and expecting a child, he drifts through a string of absurd professions and becomes emotionally distant. When his wife becomes pregnant he fixates on a Japanese woman as an escape.
More than the plot, the film is prized for its bittersweet beauty, relaxed pace, sharp humor and brilliant acting. It offers a chilled yet vital mood and stands as part of Truffaut's template of following a single character across years, later echoed by filmmakers like Richard Linklater.
