Bassiani 12

12 is a sacred number, a measure of time and a symbol of eternal return. 12 lunar cycles complete a solar year, and at 12 o'clock, time folds back to its beginning. In this cycle, every return is a genesis; not to repeat itself, but to change. Everything is ever-changing: the body, the city, society, language, memory, desires, power, and visions of the future. What we perceive as unshakeable is, in truth, an illusion of permanence that authorities whisper to us; and what seems unchangeable is, in truth, the work of endless replication of the logic of power itself. Whatever humans have created can be recreated by humans, too. The foundational idea of Bassiani is rooted in the belief that under the transformative power of music, the club is a microcosm of emancipatory possibilities, a temporary place where people create a ritualistic unity by sharing love, friendship, care, sorrow, pain, fragility, boundless joy and total oblivion, metamorphosing this into self-organised direct action against oppression and inequality. The dance of May 12th was a testament to this, and so will be every dance and movement of the future, too. Bassiani marks 12 years. On October 9, 2026, at 12:00, the anniversary marathon begins and lasts until October 12th. This celebration completes a 12-year cycle of memory; connects the past and the future, what has happened and what is yet to come; and turns the path travelled back into the starting point of change. We extend our invitation to all who have inspired us, trusted us, and cared for us; those who stood with us in the club or on the barricades, who kindled sparks of joy and resistance, gave us moments of reflection and who, time and again, kept Bassiani alive… and who have always believed in change. Change is born of imagination and the knowledge that the world is far from finished. Nor does 12 signify an end, for it’s an endless wholeness, after which something new begins… something yet unseen.
