Stranger Strings Workshop

About the Workshop Join Stranger Strings, a hands-on musical instrument-making workshop led by musician and DIY instrument maker Giorgos Bouras. Participants will use piano parts to design and build their own stringed instruments using basic hand tools, with assistance available where needed.

The workshops will encourage experimentation rather than requiring previous woodworking or instrument-making experience, exploring how discarded materials can be transformed into new and unusual musical instruments. At the end of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to play their creations together through an improvised performance in the Pianodrome.

The title of the workshop is a reference to the album Strange Strings by Sun Ra and his Astro Infinity Arkestra, featuring his band members performing on stringed instruments they had never used before. Sun Ra called it "a study in ignorance". This workshop is ticketed. Ages 11 and up. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Not all adults need to bring a child - all welcome! Accompanying adults do not need a ticket.
