A public talk with NC State Herpetologist Jeff Hall about hellbenders, mudpuppies and why North Carolina is the Salamander Capital of the World

Who? What? Where? When? Why?

Hellbenders, water dogs, mudpuppies, snot otters, lasagna lizards, devil dogs, and mud devils...

Covered in mucus...

Living for decades...

Lungless and breathing through their skin...

Born from fire...

Who is the state salamander? What is essential to salamanders? Where can you find the biggest salamander in North Carolina? When can you see salamanders? Why is North Carolina the Salamander Capital of the World?

Join Jeff Hall, the Statewide Herpetologist and NC Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation program lead for the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, to learn more about these native hellbenders, mudpuppies, and water dogs!

Hired in 2007 by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, Jeff Hall is the Statewide Herpetologist and NC Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation program lead. Through his work with NCPARC, Jeff works with landowners to promote habitat management that benefits reptiles and amphibians as well as other wildlife species.

He coordinates the North Carolina chapter of PARC helping to bring public and private partners together to further conservation efforts for reptiles and amphibians. Jeff also participates in field work on a variety of projects including rare amphibian monitoring and habitat restoration, upland snake conservation, and Project Bog Turtle.

In addition, Hall manages the Calling Amphibian Survey Program (CASP) which is designed to monitor long-term trends of frog and toad populations across the state. Jeff and his wife Shannon make their home in Greenville, NC.

Tuesday September 22nd starting at 6 p.m. in the Durham County Main Library auditorium located at 300 North Roxboro Street in Durham.
