Fancy Dancer

Growing up in South Dakota, Lara, who is half Lakota and half white, feels like an outsider everywhere she goes. When she learns about the career of Osage prima ballerina and New York City Ballet star Maria Tallchief, she finds the inspiration to pursue a dream no one else thinks is possible: a life on stage. Based on Larissa FastHorse’s own remarkable artistic journey, Fancy Dancer is a captivating story about refusing to let others define you, finding the people who believe in you, and fighting for the life you want.
