Z LUFT
Berlin five-piece Luft celebrate their new single with post‑punk leaning indie set at The Waiting Room, supported by Indexe’e.
The Berlin-based five-piece led by former TOY frontman Tom Dougall, joined by Ani Mijatović, Sam Davies, Rob Henderson and Aaron Singh, celebrate the release of their new super-limited Tough Love 12" single, "The Punch And Judy Man".
The single is produced by Luke Haines, a union that increasingly makes great artistic sense given their shared interests in post-new wave pop dynamics and subject matter that scratches the facade of the routines of English suburban life to reveal hidden charms both romantic and malign. Frontman Tom Dougall has a history of this approach, having also served as the singer in cult favourites TOY for over a decade, though his choice of imagery and songwriting now feels sharper than ever, the nostalgic references to a bygone era only vaguely disguising the sense that all might not be well.
"a strange collision of England and Berlin, where seaside folklore meets Krautrock rhythms and off-kilter guitars... If Kraftwerk covered The Kinks, and the music video was shot by Wim Wenders but written by Ken Loach, it wouldn’t be too far away from evoking the sound of 'The Punch and Judy Man'" — Line of Best Fit
