What happens when we bring InterPlay’s tools of movement, storytelling, voice and spontaneous play into performance? Join Phil Porter, InterPlay co-founder, seasoned performer and co-creator of the US-based performance group Wing It!, for a special full-day workshop exploring how InterPlay can become a toolbox for improvised performance. Having the opportunity to learn directly from Phil is a rare treat, and this workshop offers a special chance to explore the creative possibilities of InterPlay with one of the people who helped bring it into the world. Whether you're an experienced performer looking to expand your creative range or curious about exploring the performer in you for the first time, this is an opportunity to experiment, play and discover what can emerge when we create together. No prior InterPlay or performance experience is needed - just a willingness to explore in a supportive, welcoming community environment.

From its beginnings, InterPlay has been an exciting experiment in improvisational performance, combining movement, story, and sound in the moment. At the same time that co-founders Phil Porter & Cynthia Winton-Henry began creating the philosophy and technique of InterPlay, they formed WING IT! Performance Ensemble, a collection of performers and live musicians who practiced the art of improvisation and created countless evenings of moving, funny, spontaneous, and real performances over several decades.They also refined techniques that empowered folks of all sorts to take steps toward creating stuff for others in both informal and formal settings. They see performance as a continuum, from the simple things we create for a witness in almost every InterPlay class, to presentations on stage with a full audience. Anyone with willingness can learn ways to increase their creative vocabularies and discover their own way of moving, telling stories, and singing. We do it to delight others, but also ourselves. Improvisation is often revelatory—surprising things can surface when we let ourselves enter into the creative space.All of InterPlay, including InterPlay for performance is rooted in affirmation. We are encouraging and supportive with each other, and try to take ourselves a bit less seriously! Whether you want to end up on stage or not, learning InterPlay performance techniques can open up new possibilities for creativity and expression, and lots of fun to boot!
