At Phillip Withers, we start with the landscape. Climate, soil, existing vegetation and the way a place changes through the seasons all help shape a garden.

In this talk, Phil will share how these observations guide the design process, from planting and materials to the way a garden is planned and built. He will explore why working with a landscape, rather than against it, can create gardens that are more resilient, encourage biodiversity and stand the test of time.

Drawing on projects across Victoria, Phil will examine what it means to design for the landscape of Geelong and the greater region, and how site-responsive design can create stronger connections between people, place and nature.
