Il est né dans un foyer avare de mots doux mais prodigue en leçons brutales. Ce qui a façonné Charles Bukowski, ce n’est pas l’éducation reçue, mais son exact opposé : une enfance violente, les poings d’un père, la solitude d’un garçon qui n’a jamais vraiment trouvé sa place. De là sont nés l’écriture et l’alcool ; ils sont apparus ensemble et ne l’ont plus quitté jusqu’à la fin de ses jours. La pièce retrace cette existence, en particulier ses années tumultueuses : les mille femmes, les chambres sordides, la période à la poste, et la bouteille — à la fois sa ruine et sa compagne la plus sincère.

Conçue à partir de documents d’époque et de ses poèmes les plus intimes et sans fard, l’œuvre révèle l’homme derrière le mythe. Non pas une caricature, mais un être pétri de contradictions, tout à la fois brutal et tendre. Il y a eu mille femmes, puis Linda, celle qui est restée. Et il y a eu l’oiseau bleu, cette petite chose obstinée qu’il a portée en lui toute sa vie, tout en s’évertuant à nier son existence. Trouve ce que tu aimes et laisse-le te tuer.

Théâtre national de marionnettes d'Arménie a été créé le 1er juin 1935. Il a été fondé par la metteuse en scène Sofya Bejanyan, l'artiste Gevorg Arakelyan et les comédiens Pavlos Boroyan et Araksya Arabyan.

He was born into a house with too few kind words and too many hard lessons. What shaped Charles Bukowski was not nurture but its opposite: a brutal childhood, a father's fists, the loneliness of a boy who never quite belonged. Out of that came the writing and the drinking, which arrived together and stayed together for the rest of his life. The play follows that life through the restless middle: the thousand women, the cheap rooms, the post office years, the bottle that was both his ruin and his most honest companion.

Built from documentary material and his most unguarded poems, it finds the man behind the myth. Not a caricature, but a contradiction. Brutal and tender in equal measure. There were a thousand women, and then there was Linda, the one who stayed. And there was the bluebird, the small, stubborn thing he carried in his chest his whole life and spent a lifetime pretending wasn't there. Find what you love and let it kill you.

The National Puppet Theatre of Armenia, named after Hovhannes Tumanyan, was established in 1935 on June 1st and has been operating alongside the Theater for Young Spectators. The theater was founded by stage director Sofya Bejanyan, artist Gevorg Arakelyan, and actors Pavlos Boroyan and Araksya Arabyan. This is the company's Paris premiere.
