Write it Right: Digital Document Accessibility
Hands-on workshop for faculty on making Word PowerPoint and PDF course materials accessible, with deskside support and drop‑in format
This workshop-style event is an overview of accessibility for documents used in course content. We’ll cover how to create accessible Word and PowerPoint documents, HTML workarounds, and basic improvements for PDF accessibility.
While HTML content is preferred, we’ll cover how to set a language, fix titles, add alternative text, and other common accessibility pitfalls that come with PDFs. This session is designed for faculty ready to dive into questions related to digital accessibility and online course content. Attendance of a previous accessibility training is not required.
We suggest bringing your own laptop to work. Come work with your instructional designers on preparing fall courses!
What you’ll learn: - Accessibility features built into Microsoft Word and PowerPoint - How to create read-only Word files instead of saving as a PDF - Where to get permalinks from the library instead of using a PDF - How to remediate older PDFs in Adobe - How to use Ally to quickly fix PDFs in courses
Extra benefits: deskside assistance and coaching with instructional designers. Option to schedule 1-on-1 training. No need to RSVP — drop-ins are welcome. For more information, contact [email protected].
