Swing Mezzo
An interdisciplinary choreopoem recovering the story of Black Swing-era jazz vocalist Doris Rheubottom, with poetry and live music.
When the archive goes quiet, we listen harder.
Join us for the opening presentation of Swing Mezzo , an interdisciplinary choreopoem recovering and reimagining the story of Doris Rheubottom, a Philadelphia-based Black Swing-era jazz vocalist whose story survives through archival traces.
Through poetry, live music, projected archives, digital collage, and ritual, Swing Mezzo explores memory, disappearance, ancestral presence, and cultural preservation.
Featuring new compositions from Kendrah Butler-Waters and music from Hiwot Adilow, Karen Smith, and Stephanie Cole with special guest, Miles Orion Butler.
Additional note: Raina León's Doris Rheubottom-inspired art exhibition will be available for viewing at Our House Cultural Center from 3–5 PM.
