Sweely
Born William Montana in Nice and now holding a residency at Paris's Concrete, Sweeley has been trained on the piano and drums before turning an arsenal full of machines into his main instrument. This instinctual sonic instinct carries straight onto the stage. Behind an MPC, an APC40 and a lot of hands-on improvisation, his live sets feel less performed than assembled in the moment with the propelling elastic basslines, clipped vocals, a flash of jazz colour and a snap of electro. It's house, minimal and electro with the rhythm always staying up front, as heard on Distant Hawaii, Lobster Theremin and Concrete Music, and on his album Closer Energy. This is going to be a floor that's moving by the second, along with a producer who's visibly having as much fun as you are. What a better way to spend the first weekend of December With releases on Distant Hawaii, Lobster Theremin, Concrete Music and Butter Side Up, Sweely has become one of the most distinctive talents to emerge from the French underground. His instinct for improvisation and infectious energy behind the gear earned him a residency at Paris’s celebrated Concrete club.
