A study day where you will have the opportunity to view highlights from the patchwork in the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection.

A study day where you will have the opportunity to view highlights from the patchwork in the Gawthorpe Textiles Collection.

In this study visit with our Curator Rachel Midgely you will get the opportunity to study some of the star items from the patchwork in our Collection. We'll look at examples of a range of techniques including applique, paper piecing, log cabin, and crazy patchwork on items from the late 18th century through to the 20th century.

Our Curator will talk you through each item; discussing the techniques and fabrics that have been used to create them and pointing out interesting details for you to view up close.

On the Day Please make sure to arrive between 9.45am and 9.55am for a prompt 10am start.

One of our team will meet you at Reception, in the building just next to Brierfield Railway Station, and will direct you through to our Studio where the workshop will take place.

Please note that the reception will only be staffed from 9:45 onwards , so if you arrive before this you will not be able to enter early. If you arrive early there is an onsite coffee shop where you may wish to relax and purchase refreshments.

Refreshments A selection of hot and cold drinks will be available for you to have during breaks and are included in the price of the workshop.

You are welcome to bring your own packed lunch, which can be eaten in The Hub during the lunch break. There is a vending machine there for an additional snack or two. Alternatively there is also an onsite coffee shop Black Sheep Coffee which sells a range of drinks, sandwiches and snacks.

The Venue This event will take place at Gawthorpe Textiles Collection’s venue at Northlight House, a converted textile mill in Brierfield, Lancashire. The address is:

Gawthorpe Textiles Collection Suite 226 Unit 2 Northlight House Pendle Road Brierfield Nelson Lancashire BB9 5FL

Please see the image below to locate the entrance.

If you are coming by train you can access the car park by entering through the gate on the right of this picture, please email in advance for the code.
