Monthly peer gathering for Two‑Spirit, trans and non‑binary adults with a presentation by Two‑Spirit speaker Calendula Sack on history, colonization and Indigenous arts.

Spectrum Connect is a monthly, community-driven gathering space for Two-Spirit, trans, and non-binary folks (18+) to connect, share, learn, and support one another.

For our September gathering we will be welcoming guest speaker and Two-Spirit community member, Calendula Sack (she/her). She will be sharing an engaging and informative presentation exploring the history, meaning, and diversity of Two-Spirit identities and experiences.

She will be exploring the origins of the term Two-Spirit, including how its meaning, roles, and cultural significance can vary from one tribe to another. Calendula will also introduce the concepts of "othering" and "normalization," examining how these ideas have shaped and continue to impact the experiences of Two-Spirit people.

Her presentation will also look at the history and ongoing impacts of colonization on Turtle Island, while drawing comparisons with how colonization is currently impacting other parts of the world. To close, Calendula will showcase some Indigenous artists/artwork, offering an opportunity to celebrate creativity, culture, and diverse forms of Indigenous expression.

Whether you're new to the topic, looking to deepen your understanding, or wanting to reconnect with your own Indigenous heritage, this session offers an opportunity to learn, reflect, and engage with the rich diversity of Two-Spirit and Indigenous experiences.

Spectrum Connect is more than an event. It's a space to: • Build connections & chosen family • Share lived experiences and knowledge • Access information on affirming care and supports • Engage in open, community-led conversation • Strengthen intergenerational connection, mentorship, and care

Hosted by Marisa (he/they), Community Outreach Coordinator with Healthy Minds Cooperative & in collaboration with guest speaker Calendula Sack (she/her).

If you have any questions, concerns, or accessibility needs, please email Marisa, [email protected].
