Join BEE Collective for a hands-on afternoon of culture, creativity, rhythm, and community as we learn to make and play the shekere.
Join artist Quasimah Boston for a three-hour, hands-on shekere-making workshop exploring cultural tradition, creativity, and rhythm.
Participants will create their own beaded gourd percussion instrument , explore how different materials and movement shape sound, and learn a basic rhythm to play together.
Participants will leave with: One assembled and decorated shekere to take home An introduction to the cultural context of the instrument An understanding of how materials affect sound At least one basic rhythm to practice and share No previous music or instrument-making experience is needed. Registration The $45 registration fee covers materials and holds your space for the workshop.
