Finding one's authentic voice is an increasingly rare and precious skill. We believe there is a story inside us all, waiting to be told. We wish to help you draw out this story in the form of a script by offering a structured, dynamic and critically friendly environment, insight into the art of the story and theatre, individualised feedback and prompts to jumpstart your writing.

In this series of workshops, we (Alan Ackroyd, 40-year professional creative writing teacher, and Sofie Qwarnström, Routledge author and artistic director of Hoops of Iron theatre company) will help you nurture your creativity while assisting and challenging you in the completion of your writing.

Who? We welcome adults who want to write a script; from those with on-going projects to those who might class themselves as beginners. Places will be limited.

How? Alan and Sofie will help you engage with the steps required to write a play or screenplay. You will unlock the confidence and freedom to put pen to paper, and learn about techniques, impact, and story structure through active practice and group feedback, including serious and individualised constructive criticism. This will allow the focused development of specific skills and the discussion and evolution of personal writing projects.

What? The workshop every week will be structured around a different aspect of the script-writing process. Time will be given to prompt-driven live writing in class, discussion, and time aside for supportive critique. With the help of these exercises, discussions and feedback, participants are expected to complete key sections of their stories at home.

By the end of this series of workshops, you will have progressed along the path towards having completed your own script, and developed your confidence and competences as an author.
