Ran (1975)
Mediaevalia: a cinematic perspective on the Middle Ages. Breathtaking battles in 16th-century Japan in Kurosawa's Ran.
This winter at Studio/K, we’re embarking on a journey back to the Middle Ages with our new special program, Mediaevalia. Put on your chain mail, fill your favorite goblet, and venture into a world of dark castles and perilous quests. 🏰
This winter, wander through the hallways of our humble building toward the dark movie theaters, and let yourself be enchanted by the romantic life of the Baroque artist Caravaggio (1986), be won over by the charming Heath Ledger as the charming William Thatcher in The Knight’s Tale (2001), be overwhelmed by breathtaking battles in 16th-century Japan in Ran (1985), join knight Sir Gawain on a surrealist journey that tests his honour in The Green Knight (2021), or opt for a lighter, more humorous take on King Arthur’s quest in Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975). Whichever path you choose, our program will transport you to the Middle Ages, where legends come to life and evil is never far away. You’ll find the perfect escape from the winter chill amid swords, magic, and dark fantasies. Mediaevalia runs from November 4 through December 30 at Studio/K.
