The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum welcomes you to our exhibit opening for Campiche2 on Friday, November 20th, from 5-7pm.

Dr. John Campiche and his wife Val, both natives of Chicago, moved to the Peninsula in the early 1950s. Dr. and Mrs. Campiche raised their family in Seaview while he pursued his medical practice and worked to develop and improve the Ocean Beach Hospital District. They eventually lived out their retirement years there as well. In retirement John Campiche avidly pursued his lifelong interest in art, traveling the world to study the great masters, learning color theory, and practicing watercolor technique. When back on the Peninsula, he began teaching art classes to pass along what he had learned, attracting a corps of dedicated students. For many years he held a weekly class every Wednesday at the museum in Ilwaco. Eventually, as health difficulties made teaching formal classes too demanding, he turned his class into aninformal gathering called the art bunch. David Campiche grew up on the Long Beach peninsula and studied art and art history at Lewis & Clark College. In his last year in school, he had a class with Professor Ken Shores, a well-respected ceramic artist, which set him on the path he continues on today. Described by others as “purely northwest”, David has spent a lifetime exploring the forests, mountains, and water paths that inundate the area. His ceramics resonate with the textures and hues of this region.

This exhibit will run from November 20th, 2026 to March 13th, 2027 at the Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10-4pm. Admission is free.
