Featuring:

Keynote Speaker Dr. Kanoeʻulalani Morishige Screening of Ocean with David Attenborough

Saturday, October 24, 2026 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Join us for a special evening under the stars at the Waikīkī Aquarium, beginning with an OceanTalk featuring Dr. Kanoeʻulalani Morishige, followed by an outdoor screening of Ocean with David Attenborough .

Dr. Kanoeʻulalani Morishige is lead scientist for Nā Maka Onaona, a local non-profit whose mission is to cultivate and support ʻĀina Momona, thriving communities of people and place. She is also an Assistant Professor at the Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies and graduate faculty in the Sustainable Fisheries Graduate Program at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

Her pilina with Papahānaumokuākea has grown over many years through intertidal research, her work with NOAA's Native Hawaiian Program, and her advocacy through the Papahānaumokuākea Cultural Working Group and Reserve Advisory Council. These experiences have deeply shaped her journey as a scientist and continue to inspire her work supporting ʻŌiwi communities toward ʻĀina Momona, healthy and thriving communities of people and place.

During her presentation, Morishige will share tools for strengthening relationships and Indigenous literacy to deepen our understanding of ourselves, our communities, and the natural world. The discussion will explore how these perspectives can help guide the decisions and contributions we make to support thriving people and places.

Following the OceanTalk, settle in for an outdoor screening of Ocean with David Attenborough . The film takes audiences beneath the surface to explore the planet's ocean habitats, the challenges they face and the possibilities for marine life to recover.

The film also features Papahānaumokuākea National Marine Sanctuary, connecting this global story of ocean discovery and conservation to Hawaiʻi and the Pacific.

This event will be held on the Waikīkī Aquarium lawn. Reserve your seat now, as space is limited.
