Middlemarch

Named in a late-spring 2026 Guardian poll as the greatest novel of all time, “as chosen by authors, critics and academics worldwide,” George Eliot’s Middlemarch was also recently described by a Delve participant as her mother’s favorite book. This eight-week opportunity to read Middlemarch , Eliot’s masterpiece of 19th-century provincial English lives, will encourage engagement across whatever distinctions we use to label or group us as readers. After all, as the Guardian concludes about the novel, “[A]ll human life is here.” We’ll find it there, and, in reading, find more of human life in ourselves and each other.
