Intro: Tree Identification
Discover our local trees through species identification, storytelling and exploration of their cultural heritage.
Discover our local trees through species identification, storytelling and exploration of their cultural heritage.
This fully outdoor workshop introduces participants to the identification of our common trees, using Outdoor Education to develop knowledge, understanding and connection with our local natural spaces.
We will explore practical approaches to identifying trees through their leaves, bark, shapes and other distinguishing features, while considering how identification techniques change throughout the seasons.
Alongside practical identification, participants will hear the stories, folklore, history and cultural significance of Ireland's trees and woodlands, exploring the relationships between people, trees and the landscapes around us.
Learning will be grounded in direct observation, storytelling, discussion and hands-on exploration, using a variety of informal education methods to encourage curiosity, exploration and discovery. Participants will develop simple identification skills and approaches that they can continue to practise in their own local environments.
