World Vision UK launches The Inheritance Trap: evidence, exhibition and panel on how climate shocks and debt erode children's futures.

Join World Vision UK to launch The Inheritance Trap - new evidence on how climate shocks and debt are eroding children's futures worldwide.

You're invited to join World Vision UK for the launch of The Inheritance Trap , a major new initiative exploring how climate shocks and debt pressures are eroding the systems children rely on, and the futures they stand to inherit.

An experience, not just a report

This launch isn't a report-plus-panel event. It's a short, participatory journey through the real trade-offs governments face when climate shocks and debt servicing collide, followed by an exhibition of country evidence and a panel discussion.

What we're launching A global index identifying where climate and debt pressures most threaten children's futures New evidence and analysis on how these pressures interact Country case studies from Kenya, Laos and Bangladesh showing how the trap plays out in practice A set of policy recommendations Why this matters:

Around the world, governments, lenders and international institutions are debating how countries respond to rising debt, climate pressures and financial constraints. These debates increasingly shape children's futures, yet childhood is rarely at the centre of the conversation.

Debt negotiations take years. Economic recovery takes years. Climate recovery takes years. Childhood is not, it's a time-limited window, and delayed investment can have consequences that last a lifetime.

2.1 billion people live in countries where governments spend more on debt repayments than on health or education.

Who should attend

This is a flagship, cross-organisational moment for World Vision UK, and we want the room to reflect that. We welcome policy-makers, multilateral and financial institutions, institutional donors and philanthropy, strategic partners, media, academics, faith networks, and youth and child-focused voices alike. If your work touches on climate, debt, child rights or international development, this is for you.
