The Route: A gorgeous circular trek out from Hascombe, winding towards Hambledon, and looping back to the Old Rectory Car Park.
🌲 The Walk & Highlights Get ready for a fantastic mix of history, nature, and great conversation. We'll be heading up Hascombe Hill, following atmospheric woodland trails right past Hascombe Camp—an ancient Iron Age hillfort complete with surviving ramparts and defensive ditches. Fun fact: the summit was later used as a naval semaphore station on the old London–Portsmouth route!
As we walk and talk, we'll make our way through open fields, quiet woods, and rural lanes, eventually arriving at Hambledon, a picture-perfect Surrey village, before setting off on our return leg. It's the perfect backdrop to clear your head, get some fresh winter air, and enjoy the company of fellow outdoor enthusiasts.
🎒 Trail Notes & What to Bring Terrain: A proper countryside mix—expect woodland paths, open tracks, and a few good climbs and descents to get the heart pumping!
Footwear: Sturdy waterproof walking boots are absolutely essential. It's December in Surrey, so expect wet, muddy, or slippery patches along the way.
Kit List: Please bring plenty of water, a packed lunch, and trail snacks to keep your energy up. Dress sensibly for the British winter: bring warm, breathable layers and reliable waterproof clothing.
🍻 Post-Hike Pubs & Refreshments We all know a great hike is best celebrated at a great pub! We pass some brilliant local spots:
The White Horse, Hascombe: A stunning 16th-century country pub right by our start and finish line. Perfect for a well-earned post-hike pint or a warming Sunday roast.
The Merry Harriers, Hambledon: A traditional village pub offering lovely seasonal food along our route. (If you're planning to grab a full Sunday lunch here, definitely check their current times and book ahead!)
Ready to hit the trails? Meet Paul at the Old Rectory Car Park at 08:45 sharp. Wrap up warm, lace up those boots, and come prepared for a brilliant winter hike full of fresh air, rolling hills, and the usual DG Outdoor Adventures spirit. See you out there!
