Intimate conversation with designer UESATSU on how tradition and material form evolve, held at Soho House Tokyo (Japanese language).

Gradations A Thirdspace Thirdweeks gathering

Inherited gesture. Contemporary line. Form moving through time.

For this morning session, we gather with UESATSU, a graphic designer working between past and future monozukuri. In Gradations, we explore how tradition is not simply preserved, but evolved. UESATSU’s practice reveals how form shifts over time, shaped by tension, perception, and material sensitivity. Together, we consider how design becomes a quiet negotiation between memory and emergence.

Thirdspace Thirdweeks Co-curated by Tokyo Salone and semi permanent with teenage engineering, Thirdspace Thirdweeks is a year-round series of intimate gatherings at Soho House Tokyo. Designed for our community, these sessions bring global cultural practitioners across art, design, technology, gastronomy, and music into conversation. Together, they contribute to a growing cultural infrastructure in Japan, shaped through dialogue, exchange, and shared perspective.

Attendance Only 20 seats are reserved for the global semi permanent community. These places offer access to an otherwise members-only gathering, followed by the opportunity to experience Soho House Tokyo and its community. Attendance is subject to confirmation.

In conversation with UESATSU

UESATSU is a Japanese designer and cultural practitioner whose work moves between form, identity, and lived experience. Known for a distinct visual and material language, UESATSU explores how objects and environments carry meaning beyond function—shaping how we see, feel, and relate. Their practice sits at the intersection of design, culture, and narrative, where restraint, tension, and intuition guide what is made and what is left unsaid.
