ΓΚΛΟΡΙΑ
Branden Jacobs‑Jenkins’s Gloria — a tense workplace drama in Greek at Θέατρο Χορν, Monday nights from October
An open-plan magazine office, and a row of editorial assistants who have each privately concluded they are the one who deserves the promotion. Branden Jacobs-Jenkins built ΓΚΛΟΡΙΑ out of that room — junior staff at a prestigious Manhattan magazine, fluent in each other's weaknesses — and then he breaks it, hard, at a moment the play gives you no warning about.
Gloria was a finalist for the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama after its Off-Broadway debut at the Vineyard Theatre, and Second Stage has since announced it for Broadway. The Athens staging takes the Monday-night slot at Θέατρο Χορν from October. Θέατρο Χορν stands on Amerikis, a few minutes' walk from Syntagma and Panepistimio. Check which door you want: the building holds two stages, Χορν and the smaller Μικρό Χορν. Tickets through more.com.
If you want a workplace comedy that stays a comedy, ΓΚΛΟΡΙΑ does not keep that promise. If you want to feel a whole crowd stop breathing at the same instant, take the Monday.
