Geology Section Meeting
Bi‑monthly Société Jersiaise Geology Section meeting with member presentations and occasional summer field trips
The Geology Section of the Société Jersiaise aims to promote an improved understanding of geology in Jersey.
The Section members carry out research and assist external experts to carry out research on the geology of the island. Members also prepare and maintain guides on the geology of the Island for use by the general public. The Section also has a library and maintains a reference collection of local rock samples.
The Section normally meets twice a month, on the second and fourth Wednesday evenings, with occasional additional special meetings to allow visiting experts to talk to the Section. Meetings consist of presentations on a wide variety of geological topics, from general geological themes to talks on local rock types or reports of research findings. During the summer months (and occasionally during the winter), there are field trips to locations of particular geological interest.
Membership ranges from working and retired professional geologists to members who have an interest in geology and want to increase their knowledge. No formal qualifications are required. New members and members of other Société Sections are welcome. If interested, register via Eventbrite or email geology@societe.je to confirm the time and location of the next meeting and to be added to the Section email list for notifications and updates.
