Eucaristía
BROTS, a Catalan company of performers with lived experience of mental-health challenges, stage their stories of stigma and liberation.
Eucaristía is an evocative theatre piece presented by BROTS (uTOpia Barcelona), a Catalan company made up of actors who have lived experience of mental-health challenges. Through singing, shouting and acting, they perform their stories, holding up a mirror to the audience and confronting them directly.
Eucaristía explores how religious and conservative values continue to shape society, often unnoticed, and how they can lead to suffering. This project is an artistic plea for mental-health care as a collective practice, rather than as individual therapy, supporting transformation, solidarity, and a more humane approach to people who are psychologically vulnerable.
Drawing on 16 years of collective artistic practice, the makers share stories of liberation, mutual support and activism for mental health.
Eucaristía is a provocative exploration of these lived experiences, a challenge to society's prejudices, and a powerful cry against stigma.
This event forms part of Scotland's Human Rights Festival 2026, 9 – 13 December, led by the Human Rights Consortium Scotland and core festival partners Art27 Scotland and Libereco. Themed for 2026 on Dignity, Freedom and Justice For All, this is the first national, multi-day festival dedicated to celebrating, explaining and strengthening support for human rights across Scotland.
Art27 Scotland are based in Edinburgh and take their mission from Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – 'everyone has the right freely to participate in cultural life and to enjoy the arts.' They explore how contemporary arts, cultural practice and ideas can defend culture as a human right through great art and storytelling.
They curate a multi-artform program of exhibitions, performances, publications and events that respond to themes and provocations they believe are urgent for our times e.g. migration, climate change and democracy.
