Doughnut Dash
A mixed-surface gravel ride from Alpkit Hathersage where every doughnut you eat at the checkpoints shaves time off the clock.
The best part about a big bike ride is the eating part, right?! On the Doughnut Dash we've got your calories covered! Riders will cycle a mixed-surface route starting and finishing at Alpkit, aiming for a speedy time. The route will call back at Alpkit twice - here you can refuel with tasty tasty doughnuts. Each doughnut eaten reduces your overall time, however the clock doesn't stop!
So it's not just about how fast you can cycle, it's also about how many doughnuts and how quickly you can eat them...
The route consists of three different loops from the store; roughly 15km, 20km and a final 30km before the finish. The majority of the distance is on quiet lanes and side-roads, however each loop has off-road "gravel" sections to test riders technical skills. Theres also plenty of hill climbing to challenge your fitness! You're going to need those doughnuts, but try not to have eyes bigger than your stomach ;)
The event will run in the style of an unsupported sportive: It is not a race, but you can definitely claim bragging rights if you 'beat' your mates! Riders are responsible for their own navigation, safety, equipment etc. Helmets are mandatory, and having your own tools and spare parts for any bicycle mishaps is strongly recommended - there is no mechanic on standby to swoop in and rescue you out in the wild.
Each rider will be emailed a GPX of the route ahead of the event - you will need a suitable device to help you navigate as not all turns will be signposted (however we will try our best to mark major junctions). The route follows public roads and bridleways and every entrant is expected to ride safely and behave in a considerate and courteous manner to the public - remember it's just a bit of fun!
All proceeds will support the Alpkit Foundation, helping more people to Go Nice Places, and Do Good Things. More information about the foundation can be found on the following link:
