Sunday Unplugged Jazz: Luke Purbrick Trio
In-store Sunday jazz set: Luke Purbrick Trio blending originals and standards with thoughtful improvisation.
Luke Purbrick is a young jazz guitar player who studied with saxophonist Binker Golding at Tomorrow's Warriors, which inspired him to form the LP Quartet in 2022 and perform his own music. This led him to play at Love Supreme, Latitude, Swanage Jazz Festival and many venues across London. Since then he has led bands such as Morse Contact and his Octet.
Last year, with Hans Koller, Calum Gourlay and Sam Nicholls, Luke led "Four In One", exploring the compositions of Thelonious Monk. He was also a featured player in Xhosa Cole's Monk project on multiple occasions.
Active on the Brighton jazz scene, he has played at the Brighton Jazz Festival and with musicians such as Chris Coull, Simon Savage and Lawrence Jones.
In trio performance he focuses on improvisation through his compositions as well as classic standards. Expect thoughtful improvising, modern grooves and a few familiar tunes.
