An evening panel with Heriot-Watt researchers unpacking how quantum technologies are reshaping society, plus live drawing.

Join us for an evening that unpacks the mysteries of the quantum world with researchers who are pushing the boundaries of what's possible!

Demystifying Quantum brings together leading researchers for a dynamic panel discussion exploring how quantum technologies are reshaping society - and what that means for us all in a rapidly changing world.

Quantum science is moving from the lab into everyday life, shaping everything from communication and computing to healthcare. Yet with innovation happening at speed, many people are still unsure what quantum technologies actually are, why they matter, what future careers quantum might offer.

Over the past few years Heriot-Watt University has been exploring public perspectives on quantum technologies to understand what sparks curiosity, what feels confusing, and what barriers still stand between people and cutting‑edge research. Our panel will unpack the latest breakthroughs, their career pathway and discuss how Scotland is emerging as a hub for accessible, inclusive quantum innovation.

Whether you're a tech enthusiast, a student, or simply someone who loves big ideas, you'll find an evening of lively discussion, fresh perspectives, and a chance to imagine the quantum future together.

You'll also have the opportunity to watch an artist live‑draw the conversation as it unfolds.

The panel will be facilitated by Public Engagement expert Jamie Gallagher and will feature Heriot-Watt researchers Dr Christiaan Bekker, Dr Ross Donaldson and Professor Margherita Mazzera.
