Cretins
A developmental reading of George Corrin and L Stevens's sickening queer biker-gang play, with a post-show discussion.
BLOOD, BONES, AND BRUISES. TIL DEATH DO US PART. A reading of the sickening new play from George Corrin and L Stevens.
Pink Flamingos meets Deathrace 2000, the Cretins are a killer queer biker gang competing to commit the most heinous hit-and-runs. But when the leader of the pack hits a losing streak, she must commit her most revolting crime yet or return to the life she fought like hell to escape.
A note on content: CRETINS pulls from exploitation films, the Theater of the Ridiculous, Vaginal Davis's "terrorist drag," and the works of John Waters to create something truly sickening. As such it is filled with extreme violence and sexuality that is at times sexy, upsetting, political, disgusting, immoral, or fun.
By recontextualizing queer villains from 60s, 70s, and 80s B-movies, CRETINS offers them the agency and humanity they never had in their original context without sanitizing their cruelty, selfishness, and villainy.
This is a developmental reading of a work-in-progress. We encourage attendees to stick around after the show and discuss the piece with us.
