Continuum

The UP Office of the President, the UP College of Music, and the UP Symphony Orchestra, in cooperation with Orkestra ng Bayan, Inc., present Continuum, conducted by Josefino "Chino" Toledo.

The program follows a single thread: how composers reshape the music they inherit. It opens with three reworkings of Bach—Stokowski's Chorale from the Easter Cantata, Hindemith's Ragtime, and Toledo's Bach-Bach-Toh—where Baroque counterpoint meets ragtime and Filipino folk rhythm.

The second half turns to the late Romantic, moving from the warmth of Reinecke's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra, Op. 283, featuring BALIK-UPSO artist Mark Kenedy Rocas on flute, to the sweep of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 to close the evening.

Across the program, old and new sit side by side: the masters reimagined, the Romantic orchestra at full voice, and music that keeps changing shape long after it was written.
