Calligraphy Masterclass

A once-off 5-hour calligraphy masterclass with Italian-trained calligrapher Anita Angelucci, travelling from Milan for one day only.

Join us for a 5-hour guided calligraphy masterclass designed for beginners and improvers, set in a calm, welcoming environment in the heart of Galway city.

In collaboration with the Italian calligrapher Anita Angelucci , who is travelling from Milan for this one date only, this session offers a practical introduction to the craft of calligraphy in the classical European tradition, something rarely found in local workshops.

You'll learn how to handle a pointed nib and ink, understand how nibs, ink and paper work together, and build your core strokes through guided movement exercises. From there, you'll discover the ductus, the order and direction of every stroke, before working through the lowercase and uppercase alphabets, connecting letters into words, and creating your own finished composition to take home.

In a small group of no more than twelve, you'll be guided step-by-step through each stage of the process, with plenty of time to practise, experiment, and refine your work. No prior experience is required, just a curiosity to learn and a love of beautiful things.
