Books & Beasts
A magical book club for ages 7–10: hatch a mystery egg, care for your beast, and read a new book each month.
Where books and magical creatures meet!
Kids ages 7–10 are invited to join a book club filled with fantastic beasts, mysterious creatures, and plenty of imagination!
After registering, each child will pick up their mystery egg and first book. Decorate and care for your egg at home, then bring it to our first meeting on September 29th, where it will "hatch "into their very own magical creature!
From there, young caretakers will be responsible for their new companion: reading to it, bringing it along on adventures, and keeping a Caretaker's Journal filled with stories, drawings, observations, and memories from their time together.
Each month, we'll read a new book and then gather at the library to talk about the story, and share our adventures with our beasts.
Please register only if your child can commit to reading approximately one book each month and attending our monthly meetings. Books will generally be written at a 2nd–4th grade reading level, and alternate titles or formats may be available when needed.
Planning to attend a program? Please register when registration is requested so we can prepare enough supplies and make space for everyone. If your plans change, please cancel your registration so another family can attend. Frequent no-shows may result in a temporary restriction from registering for programs.
Visiting independently: Children ages 9 and up may visit the library without an accompanying adult, in accordance with library policy. Children under age 9 must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver.
Program ages are listed to help us provide activities that are safe, enjoyable, and developmentally appropriate. Siblings are welcome at many programs unless otherwise noted.
Questions about a program, accessibility, or whether something will be a good fit for your child? Please ask us! We're happy to help.
