Bizarre Bazaar
LAWRENCE, KANSAS — Calling all shoppers, art lovers, curious creatures, collectors of the unusual, and people who simply have too much ordinary in their lives! Bizarre Bazaar is back November 27–28, 2026 at the Lawrence Arts Center, bringing two days of wonderfully weird art, handmade treasures, creative curiosities, and holiday shopping that's anything but ordinary to the Lawrence Arts Center. Born in 1988 from a gathering of creative souls who believed art should be shared, celebrated, and perhaps just a little bit strange, Bizarre Bizaar has grown into one of Lawrence's most beloved and delightfully unconventional traditions. It all started with a group of artists and friends who decided that making art was even more fun when other people got to see it (and maybe take some home). Among the founding mothers were Nan Rembarger, Dixie Lubin, Jenn Veerkamp, Laura Ramberg, Ardys Ramberg, Nancy Hubble, and Paula Ware. What began as an artists' open house at 716 Lake Street in North Lawrence soon developed a life of its own. In the 1990s, the event moved to the historic Carnegie Building, then home to the Lawrence Arts Center. Eventually, Bizarre Bazaar followed the Arts Center to its current location at 940 New Hampshire Street, where the weirdness continues to flourish. The original spirit? A little unconventional, a lot creative, and, as one of the founders described it, a good old-fashioned "hippie love vibe." And really, why mess with a good thing? Nearly four decades later, Bizarre Bazaar remains a celebration of the wonderfully unexpected. Think extraordinary handmade jewelry, funky clothing, fantastical pottery, peculiar prints, fiber art, textiles, sculpture, ornaments, upcycled treasures, and creations you never knew you needed until you laid eyes on them. Past Bizarre Bazaars have featured more than 100 local artists, local musicians, and other assorted creative shenanigans. It's part art show, part holiday shopping adventure, part community gathering, and part celebration of all things delightfully different. Forget the big-box sameness. Skip the predictable. This is your opportunity to find gifts with personality, art with attitude, and treasures made by actual humans with imagination, talent, and occasionally questionable levels of creative genius. Whether you're shopping for someone special, treating yourself, or just looking for an excuse to surround yourself with creative people and beautiful oddities, Bizarre Bazaar is your kind of place. Because normal is overrated. Let’s keep Lawrence weird. FOLLOW THE WEIRDNESS: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BizBazArt Instagram: @BizBazKS
