Dreamlike indie-folk textures, atmospheric songwriting, and captivating sonic depth A very special performance from Amulet + friends, premiering new work written on the Isle of Mull combining original music, environmental field recordings, pieces of granite, and the voices, songs, and words of local people from 1850-today. Amulet (Joseph Flower + Isaac Tendler) are a Glasgow-based experimental folk duo. Using looped electric guitar, analogue synthesiser, field recordings and samples from multiple folk cultures, they create moving soundscapes from fragments of melody and texture. In April 2026, the duo took part in a residency at KNOCKvologan Studio on the Isle of Mull, creating new work responding to the historic Ross of Mull granite quarries. These quarries significantly changed the landscape of, and life on, the Ross, producing stone that built monumental structures in Glasgow, London, Liverpool, and New York. Over two weeks, Amulet worked with the local community of the Ross to create an LP-length piece of music and performance. The piece reflects on the area’s unique landscape, the people that live on it, and how both have been shaped by the quarries’ complex histories of industry and extraction. It’s also about sampling and folk culture. This performance will mark the Glasgow premiere of the piece, and the launch of its recorded release.
