Introduction to Lesson Planning

This event is part of the Summer Institute taking place from August 17–20, 2026. In this fundamental session, we will explore the four lesson basics, learning outcomes, active learning, assessment and motivation, and how to use these to plan well-aligned student-centered classes.

This session will provide a high-level overview and important pointers with the goal for you to apply these in your lesson planning. We encourage you to join one of our upcoming Instructional Skills Workshops to build upon your learning in this fundamental workshop.

By the end of this workshop, learners will be able to: - Write learner-centred learning outcomes - Appreciate the importance of learning activities and assessment - Use two lesson planning models to design a well-aligned lesson
