Springfield Together
Community celebration of the Springfield build: talks, wild clay workshops, hedge planting and food by the fire.
A special edition of WeCanMake's monthly 'Hood MeetUps: in collaboration with We Are More, Material Cultures, and Wilder Gardeners:
SPRINGFIELD TOGETHER
2:30pm-6pm Saturday 24th October
Made from bricks, straw, hemp, the clay earth dug from the ground beneath our feet, and with the helping hands of many volunteers, a new kind of community space has been taking shape at Springfield Community Allotment.
At this special celebration event, explore what we've made together and step into a future where neighbourhoods can grow their own climate resilience, including:
· Learning how these kinds of regenerative building methods can repair and improve our homes, streets, and neighbourhoods
· Reclaiming our connection to nature and its role in collective healing, care and joy.
Expert talks and hands-on workshops with:
Joshua Dise – from Black Growth, a grassroots agriculture organisation in Croydon who will share how they are tackling the barriers to healthy food, land, and resources by building a cultural blueprint for land stewardship and community wealth that drives systemic change.
Jas Tippett from We Are More & Springfield Allotment who will share how spaces like Springfield can re-connect people with nature and help us discover healing and joy for ourselves and each other.
Melissa Mean from WeCanMake will share the natural design and build process behind the creation of the two new community huts built at Springfield in collaboration with Material Cultures. This includes using wild clay, locally-sourced straw in innovative ways that could provide a blueprint for the ultra low-carbon retrofitting of our homes, streets, and neighbourhoods.
Jon & Nick from Wilder Gardeners who will share the design and build process behind the new growing landscape at Springfield, including what plants we can grow for food, nature, wildlife, and shade.
