Deakin Dance's graduating class of 2026 presents three original contemporary works exploring power, control and agency.
Deakin Dance's graduating class of 2026 presents three new and original collaborative works. Created using experimental choreographic approaches, these distinct works negotiate power, control and agency.
Fortissimo understands the piano as a tool of creative expression, cultural assimilation and effective propaganda. Bodies realise these forces through variations on Uyghur, Ballet, Tsamiko and contemporary dance, troubling Western hierarchies of art through an intercultural lens.
Momentum interrogates the ways individuals align and misalign within a collective. An invisible, internal propulsion careens the individual from one of many to one among many. Weight, force and spatial connection electrify the space between.
64 Squares deconstructs the cycle of conflict by projecting the inner workings of the human condition onto a game board. A pawn falls; a queen rises. Colliding figures question where choice begins, if at all.
Emerging from three months of intensive development, these works reflect three curated, dramaturgical practices and complex collaborative relationships. "
