Widely regarded as the pioneers of Japanese post-rock, downy has been a formidable force across Japan’s diverse music scenes since their formation in 2000. Their signature sound is defined by intricate, complex rhythms delivered with a commanding sense of conviction. As a five-piece ensemble that includes a dedicated VJ, the band is renowned for dense, explosive live performances that seamlessly integrate immersive visuals.

Throughout their storied career, downy has graced major stages ranging from Japan’s Fuji Rock to China’s Concrete & Grass. They co-curate the Afterhours festival alongside Mono and Envy, hosting internationally acclaimed Japanese acts like toe, Boris, and LITE, as well as global icons such as Explosions in the Sky. To date they have released eight albums all titled Mudai ("Untitled"). Their most recent effort arrived in March 2025 followed by a seven-date national tour and a standout performance at Fuji Rock ’25.
