Light & Dark: An exploration in stories featuring Annie Wiborg, Stan Bookout, Lisa Mathews, and Peter Bretl
Is there light at the end of the tunnel? Can we possibly know? Are we afraid of the dark? Do we have to decide? Four tellers go deep (or not so deep) on existential questions, personal recollections, and observations on the lightness and darkness that we all experience as we seesaw our way through life.
Artist Bios:
Annie Wiborg has performed at The Moth where she is a two-time GrandSLAM winner, The American School of Storytelling, Truth be Told, The Herd, We Belong, Comedy Through the Chaos, and WTF: Love, Loss and Why I Swore, as well as Listen to Your Mother.
Stan Bookout has been a regular at the American School of Storytelling for about two years. He has also performed at slams at the Storyteller’s Lair. His stories range from growing up in the deep south to adventures, and misadventures in other countries.
Lisa Mathews has traveled all of her life, internationally, culturally and culinarily —there’s nothing better than a run though a market in Cairo or an Indian taco at a pow wow. Trained in film studies, Lisa’s world is a riot of color, texture and complexity.
Peter Bretl has performed at the Moth, Uproar Comedy at BLB, The Strike Theater, and The American School of Storytelling, where three of his shows in 2026 sold out. He is also a co-founder of performance events at the Storyteller’s Lair. His work is raw, comedic, and stealthily sweet.
