Workshop: Unscripted Urbanism

Inspired by Ludovic Nkoth's painting Smoke Break, on view as part of In Abstracto, In Concreto: On Memory and Presence at Efie Gallery, this workshop explores how everyday people temporarily claim and repurpose public spaces for social gathering and other uses.

Participants work with photo prompts and creative materials to reimagine their chosen spaces, drawing on their own lived experiences and memories while thinking speculatively – imagining alternative futures for how public spaces could be claimed, used, and felt. Creative materials and methods include drawing and annotation, writing, collaging, tracing and overlaying, and more three-dimensional building.
