Sewing Machine 101 Certification
Hands-on beginner class teaching safe operation and basic stitches to qualify to use EPL sewing machines
This class is designed for customers who want to book EPL’s sewing machines and have no prior sewing machine experience.
EPL offers a separate on the spot/skill test certification process for customers who already have prior sewing machine experience. If you are familiar with the skills listed below, you are not required to take this class. Please contact the Makerspace to book a sewing appointment to complete the on the spot/skill test certification process.
Participants in this class will learn safety, terminology, basic sewing machine operation and be guided through a hands-on project using EPL's sewing machines. Each participant will be paired up with someone to share a sewing machine.
In this class, EPL will cover:
• Safe use of a sewing machine and sewing accessories. • Threading the machine and winding a bobbin. • Adjusting tension. • Basic stitching operations – sewing a straight line and sewing a back stitch.
Once customers complete the class, they are eligible to book an EPL sewing machine at the Stanley A. Milner Makerspace. This class is designed for ages 15 and up.
