Rooftop Rhythms: El Balcón
Arts & Culture · Performing Arts · Adults · All Ages · Live Music at VPL
Enjoy free jazz-ish concerts throughout July and August on the roof of the Central Library, one of Vancouver's most beautiful public spaces! Our Summer concert series Rooftop Rhythms has something for everyone !
Our first performers on this series are Montreal-based Latin ensemble El Balcón. Formed out of a common love for traditional music from around the world and a desire to explore new possibilities in acoustic sound and groove, El Balcon has been electrifying audiences across Canada and the world.
They began by making creative arrangements of traditional tunes from Mexico, the homeland of singer Valeria Del Marre , and have since evolved to composing original and innovative music that maintains the spirit of the traditions that inspired them. El Balcón blends Mexican folk instruments like the Jarana , Reguinto and “La Tarima” with microtonal melodies of the east on the violin and oud in a unique, intercultural sound that`s sure to get your feet moving!
This performance is presented in partnership with Vancouver Folk Music Festival and Caravan World Rhythms
