Intensive Interaction
Half-day practical training for parents and carers on Intensive Interaction to improve communication with children and young people
Shine Therapy Services has been commissioned by Halton Borough Council to deliver a training programme specifically for the parents / carers of children and young people resident within the Borough.
The programme aims to empower parents / carers with knowledge that can be applied practically in the care and support of children and young people.
The details of this half day course are outlined below:
Intensive Interaction
Intensive Interaction is a person-centered approach which works to develop the early communication skills of children and young people who find it difficult to engage with others. It is in some ways, a conversation that doesn't require spoken words. The technique encourages the participating adult to completely follow the child or young person's lead and respond responsively (e.g. mirroring, matching, and turn-taking) to join their communication style.
This teaches the child or young person that their "voice" is valued and encourages them to explore it further. This session introduces the principles of Intensive Interaction and how it can be used to enhance communication and engagement with children and young people.
Registration opens at 08:45. The course starts promptly at 09:15 and finishes at 12:30. Lunch not provided. Free parking available on site, but travel by public transport encouraged.
Tickets only available via Eventbrite. No admittance without Eventbrite ticket.
Next course: Restrictive Eating and Mealtime Challenges - 16.01.27 (see Eventbrite).
A separate training programme will be delivered for local authority education professionals. Details of this programme will be issued directly to schools.
