Julian Marley is the son of reggae legend Bob Marley and Barbados-born Lucy Pounder. Growing up in a musical environment, he became a self-taught musician, mastering bass, drums, guitar and keyboards. His debut album, Lion in the Morning (1996), showcased his roots and led to an international tour with The Uprising.
In 1998 Julian contributed to Lauryn Hill’s Grammy-winning The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. His 2003 album A Time and Place blended reggae and jazz; the 2009 album Awake was Grammy-nominated and won Best Album of the Year at the International Reggae and World Music Awards in 2010. In 2023 he won a Grammy for Colors of Royal and received another nomination for 2024.
Recognized for his contributions to the consciousness movement in music, Julian is a devout Rastafarian whose work is inspired by life and spirituality. He continues to tour globally and is preparing a new music project while developing business partnerships outside music.
