Monster
Naomi Wood performs a solo spoken‑word theatre piece exploring sea myth, monstrosity and visibility — ages 12+
A new 1 hr solo spoken word autobiographical show by Naomi Wood (Gobbess) about monsters, ocean myth, fear and identity. It looks at what we consider to be "monstrous" especially in women and explores a fear of the sea and the tempestuous nature of performance, equating audiences with the ocean.
The piece considers the nature of being seen and exposed, learning to embrace both togetherness and aloneness, and the ways we hide away and seek visibility. It reconnects with the wild and with risk, externally and within.
It involves the mythology of the sea — mermaids, selkies, and the sea witch — and is told through original spoken word and storytelling with an original music score. It includes hilarious fish facts, is personal, moving and champions seeing the best in both people and pond life.
For anyone who has ever been told there are "plenty more fish in the sea" or felt far from the shore.
Trigger warnings: mention of violence, abuse, disordered eating and alcohol related death. Ages 12+.
