Mapping queer lives across Cornwall — Dr Paul Taylor‑McCartney in conversation with Peter McAllister
Illustrated talk mapping three centuries of queer lives in Cornwall with Dr Paul Taylor‑McCartney and Peter McAllister
What does queer history look like when you follow roads, coves and footpaths rather than famous names alone?
In this illustrated talk, Dr Paul Taylor‑McCartney shares the new research and mapping from his book Cornwall Uncharted: Mapping Cornwall's Queer History of Concealment, Culture and Creativity, exploring three centuries of queer lives in the county. His case studies will take you on a journey from 18th‑century performance culture and cross‑dressing in Truro taprooms through artistic colonies at Lamorna and Newlyn and on to Bodmin Jail and modern Pride routes.
Peter McAllister is a writer, university lecturer, publisher and magazine editor. He is a member of the LitFest organising team.
